the freshest linens of all time

"Sleeping on ironed sheets is heavenly"
--Kate Spade

I never get into my sheets without showering first, i use only cotton and fine linens, and i prefer to sleep with the windows open. Really, though, this only takes the sleeping experience so far. I found myself reading Kate Spade's Occasions, in complete knowledge that a teenager reading Kate Spade's Occasions is the most cheesy and snottiest thing ever. Nonetheless, the idea of freshly ironed sheets seemed enticing. The fairy-tale mood i was in that day didn't help either. So i gave in. Here's the best way to do it:

Materials:
4 of your best pillows, of equal weight
4 fine linen pillowcases (you can substitute cotton)
Washer and Dryer
1 vial of essential oil or a perfume sample
An Iron
1 spray bottle
Your Softest Matching sheet set

Getting To It.
1. Throw it all into the washer, adding detergent and softener

2. When it's done and you're ready to dry them, put it on the less dry setting, so that the sheets are still a bit damp when they're done

3. Pop them out of the dryer and lay everything flat immediately.

4. Mix ten drops of essential oil (or the entire perfume sampler) with half a cup of water. Pour this into the spray bottle and shake it up.

5. Spray the top edge of the sheet with the fragrance. Never use starch when ironing sheets. Begin to iron out, going from top to bottom (like you're shading in a coloring book). Drop the sheet in front of you more as you finish each row of ironing, until you reach the bottom hem.

6. Repeat with top sheet and then with pillowcases. Make sure you iron the pillow case by inserting the ironing board into the opening and ironing all the way around on one layer, not by setting the entire thing flat on the board.

7. Lay on the sheets as soon as you finish ironing them.

8. Enjoy the best sleep of your life in sheets that feel like silk.
